The per capita income for the county was $19,036. About 16.87% of families and 22.22% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.40% of those under age 18 and 22.00% of those age 65 or over. 

Hoke County is home to Sandhills Community College, Carolina Horse Park, an indoor Skydiving facility, and a week long Turkey Festival held every September.

The Harnett County School system has 14 different schools: 8 elementary schools (which include pre-k), 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, and 1 alternative school. Elementary: Don D Steed, Hawk Eye, JW Mclauchlin, Rockfish Hoke, Sandy Grove, Scurlock, Unchurch, West Hoke. MS: East Hoke, Sandy Grove, West Hoke. HS: Hoke County, JW Turlington, Sandhoke Early College. Alternative: Turlington.
